When selecting plants and trees to grow around your pool, there are several important considerations:

    • Falling leaves: Some varieties shed more leaves than others, so you want to choose plants that shed less to keep your pool clean and make your life easier. There is also the choice between deciduous and evergreen.
    • Flowers and fruits: While flowers can add beauty and colour to your pool side, trees that shed their flowers can become a nuisance. Having said that, the flowering Frangipani trees are a classic for the pool and arguably worth the trouble!
    • Wildlife: If you pick trees and plant them in areas that arch over the pool, ensure these are not varieties that attract wildlife - especially the fruiting varieties. You don't want them pooing in your pool do you?
    • Invasive roots: Trees with invasive roots planted near your pool can cause major structural damage. Trees notorious for having invasive roots include the golden cane palm and the Ficus varieties
    • Sun-requirements: One of the most essential requirements for a plant to survive and thrive is the appropriate sunlight requirements. Use the filters on the left to choose between the different sun light requirements based on how much sun your pool side area receives:
      • Full sun: +4 hours of sun:
      • Part sun/part shade: 1-4 hours of sun
      • Bright indirect sunlight: Early morning/late evening sun or bright indirect sunlight
