The Doryanthes palmeri is a beautiful large Australian native lily that grows in a solitary patch along the East Coast, in Queensland and New South Wales. The giant spear lily is a large-leaved lily with bright green sword-like foliage that grows in rosettes. It only flowers once, and the result is a massive red flower head on a long stalk. The plant may take many years to attain flowering maturity, but the wait is worthwhile.
