Acer palmatum, commonly known as Japanese maple or smooth Japanese maple, is a deciduous shrub or small tree that is native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia. It has palmate leaves with five to nine lobes that may come in green or red (or both), depending on the variety and season. The leaves turn to brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, or purple in the fall, creating a stunning display. The flowers are small, red or purple, and produced in clusters in spring. The fruit is a pair of winged samaras that spin in the wind when falling from the tree. Acer palmatum can grow from 2 to 25 feet tall and wide, depending on the cultivar and growing conditions. It can have a round, mounding, vase-like, cascading, or upright shape. It may also have a weeping form. Acer palmatum is a versatile and ornamental plant that can be used as a specimen, bonsai, hedge, screen, or container plant. It can also be planted in groups or mixed borders to create a woodland or Japanese-style garden. It prefers partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is hardy in zones 5 to 9 and can tolerate some drought and frost once established. However, it may need protection from strong winds and extreme temperatures.

What a gorgeous tree!

My Fiddly Fig has finally decided to have it's last tantrum - nothing made it happy and all the research and care I put into it came to nothing. Of all my plants, it is the most demanding. I ordered the Banyan Tree and it's tall! The bark is a beautiful silver and the leaves are strong - it is such a healthy, majestic plant. Hopefully the fiddly fig ups its game now there's a contender for my affections in the house (but knowing the fiddly fig, it'll probably drop another leaf in protest). Thank you for such a healthy, beautiful plant, sorry, tree! :)
