Callistemons commonly called bottlebrush plants because their foliage looks like a bottle brush are gorgeous and versatile native plants. This icon of the Australian home garden brings colour and native birds to the garden. They thrive in both warm and cooler temperatures. Once fully established, these plants are also fairly drought and frost tolerant, and generally do not get affected by pests or diseases, making this an extremely hardy and easy plant for your garden.

The 'Kings Park Special' bottlebrush is an easy to grow and hardy native tree. The narrow and upright tree has a tidy appearance with bright red bottlebrush flower spikes during spring and summer.

Soil: Well draining native mix is the best; however, they can also tolerate a range of soil types from sand to moist clay and is an excellent option where the soil has too much clay for natives such as banksias and grevilleas.

More info: Callistemons do not need much fertiliser - applying once in spring and in autumn would suffice. For abundant flowering, use a fertiliser low in phosphorus that is specifically formulated for Australian natives.

What a gorgeous tree!

My Fiddly Fig has finally decided to have it's last tantrum - nothing made it happy and all the research and care I put into it came to nothing. Of all my plants, it is the most demanding. I ordered the Banyan Tree and it's tall! The bark is a beautiful silver and the leaves are strong - it is such a healthy, majestic plant. Hopefully the fiddly fig ups its game now there's a contender for my affections in the house (but knowing the fiddly fig, it'll probably drop another leaf in protest). Thank you for such a healthy, beautiful plant, sorry, tree! :)
