Ficus benjamina 'Emerald Green' commonly called the emerald ficus is an evergreen plant with lush and dense glossy green foliage and lighter lime green new growth. The emerald ficus is a very popular topiary plant as a lollipop-shaped standard topiary. Ficus benjamina 'Emerald Green' Care Guide

The Ficus benjamina 'Emerald Green' plants are easy plants to keep thriving.

Sunlight:

The emerald ficus thrives in part-shade to full sun, i.e., any place that receives over 2 hours of direct sun. If the plant is in full sun, ensure to water regularly, preventing the potting mix from drying up completely to prevent leaves from burning. They do not like sudden changes in sun light and may drop leaves as a result. If this happens though, the leaves will grow back in no time with consistent watering and sunlight.

Watering:

Water when at least the top 5 cm of the potting mix gets dry. Do not let the soil get completely dry. The emerald ficus is quite a forgiving plant - even if it drops its leaves, if you water and feed it appropriately with good sunlight, it will bounce back with lush new growth. Always plant in a pot with good drainage holes and do not let the plant sit in stagnant water as it will cause root rot.

Pruning:

Prune them regularly to keep them in shape and bushy. If planted in the ground in urban gardens, keep the plant small and pruned regularly to prevent damage from the invasive roots.

Feeding:

Fertilize with a slow release fertilizer (according to manufacturer's recommendations) and liquid sea weed (once in 2-4 weeks).

Other notes:

Ficus plants have extremely invasive roots so, in urban gardens, it is strongly advisable to keep them in pots or containers rather than planting them in the ground. If you are after a lollipop topiary to plant in the ground, try the lilly pilly standards. The Ficus benjamina 'Emerald Green' is also fairly pest resistant, making this a plant suitable for even beginner gardeners or people with brown thumbs, so why don't you give it a go!

What a gorgeous tree!

My Fiddly Fig has finally decided to have it's last tantrum - nothing made it happy and all the research and care I put into it came to nothing. Of all my plants, it is the most demanding. I ordered the Banyan Tree and it's tall! The bark is a beautiful silver and the leaves are strong - it is such a healthy, majestic plant. Hopefully the fiddly fig ups its game now there's a contender for my affections in the house (but knowing the fiddly fig, it'll probably drop another leaf in protest). Thank you for such a healthy, beautiful plant, sorry, tree! :)
