Brachychiton rupestris – The Iconic Queensland Bottle Tree

The Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris) is a stunning, drought-tolerant Australian native known for its distinctive swollen trunk, lush green foliage, and resilience in dry conditions. This medium to large deciduous tree can grow up to 10-20m tall and features a unique bottle-shaped trunk that develops as the tree matures, making it a standout feature in any landscape.

Perfect for Australian Gardens & Low-Maintenance Landscaping

This low-maintenance, hardy tree thrives in full sun and adapts well to a range of soil types, including poor, dry, and sandy soils. It is highly drought-tolerant and can survive extended dry periods once established, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens.

Striking Foliage & Seasonal Interest

The Queensland Bottle Tree produces glossy, deep green leaves, which drop in dry seasons or during winter, allowing sunlight through. In spring, it may develop small, bell-shaped yellowish flowers, adding seasonal interest.

Ideal for Feature Planting & Street Trees

This iconic tree is widely used as a statement feature in gardens, streetscapes, parks, and large properties. It is also highly valued for shade, windbreaks, and its architectural form, making it a top choice for native and drought-tolerant landscapes.

A stump with a few leaves

I received a severely pruned tree with barely any leaves on it and the ones that are on it are shrivelled up. My overall experience with this company has been poor. From getting a call on a Saturday evening asking if they can deliver to not answering when I call back. To then delivering my a tree that looks like it’s seen war. I was looking forward to a beautiful qld bottle tree and to repotting it to be a feature in my house and all I want to do with it is throw it in the bin and cry. I’m so disappointed with the seller for thinking that even selling something this bad looking was an ok thing to do. It’s truly ruined my weekend since I had already gone and purchased soil for a repot.
